Sophie

Sophie came to us at about 1 ½ years old when she was discarded by her previous owner at the animal shelter I worked for at the time.

She had been so severely beaten that she had internal injuries and scaring from it. She just cowered down in fear and nobody was able to even get her to move.

When I gave it a try our eyes locked and at that moment I knew that I would take her home with me and Sophie must have known because she followed me willingly. I never put her into a kennel at the shelter, she stayed with me until I went home that day and she has been attached to me ever since.

Sophie is the sweetest girl and how anybody could ever find any reason to beat her is beyond anything we can ever understand.

Needless to say in addition to her actual scars, she had some emotional scars as well, they had broken her body but did not succeed in breaking her spirit.

She turned into a wonderful sweet and lovable girl always near us and she became our “Mommy” for all the baby animals on the farm.

She has a very strong maternal instinct and always takes on the role of surrogate mom and guardian when we have goat kids. Sophie will lick them clean and watch over them.

She is our absolutely sweet as pie grandma and at about 14 years old now, we truly hope to be able to spend a few more years with her.
